Getting started
What services does Viewpoint Psychological Services offer?
We offer two main types of services: therapy (psychotherapy) and psychological assessments. Therapy involves ongoing sessions to support mental health, emotional wellbeing, and personal growth — most often individual therapy, but also couples or family therapy. Assessments are structured evaluations that provide a comprehensive understanding of cognitive, emotional, or behavioral functioning — often used to diagnose conditions (like ADHD or Autism) or to inform treatment planning.
How do I know if I need therapy or an assessment?
If you're struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, trauma, stress, or other emotional concerns, therapy is likely the right starting point. If you (or someone you know) need a formal diagnosis, an evaluation for learning disabilities, ADHD, or other conditions, or documentation for school or workplace accommodations, an assessment may be more appropriate. Not sure? Contact us and we'll help guide you.
Do I need a referral to book an appointment?
No referral is required to schedule therapy or psychological assessment. You can fill out the online registration form or call us at 859-442-8439 to get started right away.
Appointments & scheduling
How do I book an appointment?
We try to make this as easy as possible — you can get started without a phone call. Fill out the online registration form, or call our intake team at 859-442-8439. We'll ask a few questions to understand your needs and match you with the most appropriate clinician.
For a full walkthrough of what happens before, during, and after your first visit, see our What to Expect page.
What happens at the first appointment?
Your first session (often called an intake) is a chance for your clinician to learn about you — your concerns, history, and goals. It's also an opportunity for you to ask questions and decide if you feel comfortable moving forward. There's no pressure or commitment. We work to find the best fit, because the therapy connection matters. If it's not a great fit, we'll work even harder to set you up with someone you connect with.
How long are sessions?
Individual therapy sessions are typically 53–55 minutes (the therapist uses the remaining minutes of the hour for required notes and paperwork). Psychological assessment appointments vary by evaluation type and may range from 1 to several hours, sometimes across multiple appointments — but there are no surprises; you'll have an estimate when scheduling.
How often will I need to come in?
For therapy, weekly sessions are common, especially at the start — this helps you and your therapist get to know each other and often produces the fastest, best outcomes. Over time, frequency may shift to bi-weekly or monthly depending on progress and needs. You and your therapist decide together.
Fees & insurance
What are your fees?
Fees vary by service type and clinician level, but are mostly determined by your individual insurance plan. When our therapists are on your panel, they accept the reduced rate specified in their contract with the insurer. The amount you pay (copay, deductible, etc.) is most often determined by your specific insurance plan.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes — Viewpoint accepts most commercial insurance plans for therapy appointments. We currently do not accept Medicaid plans or Cigna. Insurance is not accepted for psychological assessment services.
Do you offer a sliding scale or reduced fees?
We understand cost can be a barrier to care. Please speak with us about your situation — we'll do our best to find a workable arrangement where possible.
Confidentiality & privacy
Is what I share kept confidential?
Yes. Everything you share with your therapist or psychologist is strictly confidential. We follow professional and legal privacy standards to protect your personal information.
Are there any limits to confidentiality?
There are a few rare situations where disclosure may be required by law — including if there is a risk of serious harm to yourself or others, or if a child is at risk of abuse or neglect. Your clinician will explain these limits at the start of your work together, so there are no surprises.
Therapy services
What types of therapy do you offer?
We work with kids (2 and up), teens, adults, couples, and families. Clinicians are trained in a range of evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), trauma-informed care, EMDR, ACT, DBT skills, and mindfulness-based therapy. The approach is tailored to your individual needs and goals.
What issues can therapy help with?
A wide range of concerns, including: anxiety and worry, depression and low mood, trauma and PTSD, relationship difficulties, life transitions and grief, stress and burnout, self-esteem and identity, workplace or school challenges, and parenting and postpartum challenges.
How long will I be in therapy?
It varies. Some people benefit from a short-term focus of 8–12 sessions; others find longer-term support more helpful. You and your therapist will regularly review progress and set goals together.
Assessment services
What is a psychological assessment?
A comprehensive evaluation conducted by a licensed psychologist. It typically includes interviews, questionnaires, and standardized tests to understand cognitive functioning, learning, attention, emotional wellbeing, or other areas. At the end, you receive a detailed report with findings and recommendations.
Who does psychological assessments?
Doctoral-level psychologists provide all psychological assessments at Viewpoint. Psychologists are specifically trained in assessment, and our team produces thorough reports that are recognized by physicians, school personnel, and others who know what to look for. Our goal is for you to have a comprehensive understanding and a thorough documented report — this is what sets our evaluations apart.
Who are assessments for?
Children, adolescents, and adults. Common reasons include: suspected learning disabilities (e.g., dyslexia), attention difficulties (e.g., ADHD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) evaluations, cognitive or memory concerns, school or workplace accommodation documentation, and diagnostic clarification.
How long does an assessment take?
Depends on the type — typically 3–4 appointments over a few weeks. Preparation of the written report takes additional time.
When will I receive the results?
After the assessment sessions are complete, your clinician prepares a written report (typically a few weeks). A feedback session is then scheduled to walk you through the findings and answer questions.
Practical information
Where are you located?
We have offices in Ft. Thomas, Crestview Hills, Florence, and Georgetown, Kentucky.
Do you offer virtual/online appointments?
Yes. All therapists are licensed to provide telehealth throughout Kentucky. Several are also licensed/authorized to provide telehealth in other states, such as Ohio, Florida, and current PSYPACT states.
What is your cancellation policy?
We require a minimum of 24 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule (and request as much notice as possible). Late cancellations or no-shows are charged a $95 fee. Adequate notice lets us offer the time to other clients and avoid gaps in the therapist's schedule.
Before your first visit
A few quick logistics. For the full walkthrough — intake forms, who should attend, what to bring — see the What to Expect page.
What should I do to prepare?
Intake forms are sent ahead of time through our secure Client Portal. Completing them at home before your first session lets your therapist review them in advance, so your time together is spent on you — not paperwork.
For everything else — arrival times, who should attend, parking — visit our What to Expect page.
How far in advance should I book?
We recommend booking 6–8 appointments in advance, weekly to start, because therapist schedules fill quickly. You can adjust frequency with your therapist as you go.
Can my child come to the first appointment?
If you're seeking services for your child, the child typically should not attend the initial appointment unless arranged in advance — this gives the parent space to speak openly about concerns and history. Your clinician will discuss the right time to involve the child going forward.
